Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about fly screens and pest prevention.
I have a café, do I need screens in the kitchen?
According to the legislation, all windows and doors opening to the outside should be covered with a means to prevent insects from entering. This is not always feasible on entrance and exit doors (especially fire exits) but certainly all windows and goods entrance doors should be protected.
Which mesh is best so my pets don’t damage it?
We offer two types of mesh that are suitable for pets. We have strong ‘pet mesh’ which is resistant to scratching by cats and dogs. Alternatively you can choose a stainless steel mesh on certain types of screens.
Do I need to have a fly killer in a restaurant?
There are two parts this is answer. Firstly, while you are not legally obliged to have one, if you ever undergo an inspection, having a fly killer is part of what is classed as due diligence. Secondly, if flies enter your restaurant and are landing on food in the kitchen or bothering clientele, you need to be able to get rid of them and stop them bothering your customers.
I have double French doors onto the patio, which screen is best?
It will depend on the space you have around the doors on either side. if the doors open outwards for example and you have limited wall space either side of the doors, the best option will be a twin roller screen door. This will mean when the doors are closed, the screen will be barely noticeable
Do your screens stop midge flies from entering?
Standard mesh will offer protection against most flying insects. Midges are particularly annoying on a balmy summer evening, and particularly small. We have a special ‘midge mesh’ which has a smaller aperture than most standard fly screen mesh which is small enough to deter even these little guys.
How often do the tubes in a fly killer need changed?
The level of ultraviolet light reduces over time. The UV lamps need replaced on an annual basis – this is best done in the spring so they are at optimum performance levels during the months you will need them most. Annual maintenance generally includes replacing the lamps and starters as well as cleaning down the grid and catchment tray if they are fitted. Glueboard flykillers will also need the glue board changed every 4-6 weeks.
